Background studies of high energy γ rays from (n,γ) reactions in the CANDLES experiment

摘要: Abstract High energy γ rays with several MeV produced by (n,γ) reactions can be a trouble for low background measurements in the underground laboratories such as double beta decay experiments. In CANDLES project, which aimed to observe neutrino-less from 48Ca, caused were found most significant background. The profile of was studied neutron source and simulation validity check processes Geant4. observed spectrum well reproduced simulated spectra, originated surrounding rock detector tank made stainless steel. environmental flux derived event rate using simulation. thermal non-thermal ( 1.3 ± 0.6 ) × 10 − 6  cm 2 s 1 1.1 0.5 5 , respectively.
