摘要: This thematic issue compiles a selection of papers presented at the 30th Altenberg Workshop in Theoretical Biology held KLI Klosterneuburg, Austria June 2014. The workshop was organized by Werner Callebaut, Isabella Sarto-Jackson, and Richard R. Nelson, distinguished itself its very interdisciplinary character. As title (given headline) indicates, this gathering experts from various scientific fields intended to advance understanding relations between quality quantity, limits quantification sciences. Because explicit nature effort, Callebaut envisioned topic be attractive wide range natural social sciences as well humanities. In arguments about quantity three different issues often conflated: phenomena terms numbers; theory (articulation causal relationships) using language mathematics; methodology.
