摘要: Cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, are photosynthetic, aquatic organisms found in fresh, brackish, and marine water around the world (1). Rapid proliferation accumulation of potentially toxin-producing cyanobacteria characterize one type harmful algal bloom (HAB). HABs have potential to cause illness humans animals (2,3); however, epidemiology these illnesses has not been well characterized. Statewide 2015, a total 139 were identified New York, 97 (70%) which confirmed through laboratory analysis; 77 independent beach closures ordered at 37 beaches on 20 different bodies water. To better HAB-associated illnesses, during June-September York State Department Health (NYSDOH) implemented pilot surveillance system 16 counties. Activities included collection data from environmental HAB reports, poison control centers, syndromic surveillance, increased outreach public, health care providers, veterinarians. During June-September, 51 reported, including 35 that met CDC case definitions*; 32 cases occurred three dogs. In previous years, never had more than 10 reported statewide. The results counties 4-month period suggest might be common previously reported.
