Using Opioids With Surgical Patients: Nurses' Attitudes and Experiences.

摘要: Opioids such as morphine are effective analgesics and have been recognized worldwide for many years; yet, they underutilized. The study explores the attitudes experiences relating to opioids, in general, morphine, particular, among Jordanian surgical nurses. Attitudes Scale was used. A total of 123 questionnaires were distributed, 120 returned, achieving a response rate 96%. Focus group discussions (n = 4) conducted with nurses 34). majority believe that addiction is most serious side effects opioids. Qualitative analysis revealed 2 major themes. first theme referred "not being same boat," highlighting lack teamwork, comprised subthemes: blame culture physicians versus second "morphine last on list" also made up confidence fear legal persecution. Nurses showed negative misconceptions about opioids use within fragmented unit culture. Therefore, efforts must be create sustain an reform communications path from patient nurse doctor.
