Use of Experimental Factorial Design for Optimization of Hexavalent Chromium Removal by a Bacterial Consortium: Soil Microcosm Bioremediation

摘要: Hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) is regularly introduced into the environment through diverse anthropogenic activities. It highly toxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic, because of its solubility in water, chromate contamination can be difficult to contain. Bacteria reduce insoluble less toxic trivalent Cr(III), thus increasing attention paid bioremediation ecotoxicological impacts. In this study, factorial design 23 was employed optimize critical parameters responsible for higher removal by a bacterial consortium. The factors considered were pH, temperature, inoculum size at two markedly different levels. All three dependent variables have significant effect on reduction.
