摘要: The continued synthesis of deoxyribonucleic acid, protein, cell wall peptidoglycan and intracellular iodophilic polysaccharide (IPS) by Streptococcus mutans strain FA-1 after several treatments intended to inhibit protein was studied. Exponential-phase cultures were: (i) simultaneously deprived two required amino acids (cystine leucine) that are not present in the this species; (ii) depreived (lysine or glutamate plus glutamine ) both protein; (iii) treated with tetracycline. Each these three types treatment accompanied a different pattern unbalanced growth. patterns growth differed substantially from observed previously for faecalis ATCC 9790, noncariogenic organism does contain IPS. In contrast S. failed accumulate thicken its when non-wall acids. Instead, IPS levels higher than those found exponential-phase cells. Again, faecalis, autolyze upon deprivation essential precursors peptidoglycan. Under conditions lysine glutamate/glutamine deprivation, very high levels. Treatment tetracycline did result accumulation thickening manner similar inhibition faecalis. Realtively little treatment. Accumulation appeared occur ribonucleic acid were severely inhibited. observations discussed terms survival cariogenic organisms oral environment. Images
