摘要: Unicompartmental osteoarthritis was produced by applying varus stress to moving rabbit knee joints. Degenerative changes were confined the medial tibial and femoral articular surfaces. Within range of used, duration appears be more important than magnitude in determining severity cartilage damage. The calcified zone remained histologically unchanged despite advanced noncalcified superficial tidemark. Intrachondral degenerative cysts frequently found basilar layers adjacent tidemark where shear stresses likely highest diffusible nutrients least available. Highly cellular cartilaginous tissue noted subchondral marrow spaces specimens with degeneration. These areas appeared continuous overlying degenerated through gaps cartilage. Subchondral bone did not show remarkable trabecular thickening
