摘要: The restoration of New Orleans and the rest Mississippi delta after Hurricane Katrina can become another disaster waiting to happen, or it a model sustainable development. Sea level is rising, precipitation patterns are changing, hurricane intensity increasing, energy costs predicted soar, city continuing sink. Most currently from 0.6 5 m (2–15 feet) below sea level. conventional approach simply rebuilding levees behind them will only delay inevitable. If Orleans, in which located, develop pursue new paradigm, could be truly unique, sustainable, desirable city, an inspiration people around world. This paper discusses underlying causes implications disaster, basic goals for redevelopment initiative, seven principles necessary vision future delta.
