摘要: Marine lakes, with populations in landlocked seawater and clearly delineated contours, have the potential to provide a unique model study early stages of evolution coastal marine taxa. Here we ask whether mussel Brachidontes from lakes Berau, East Kalimantan (Indonesia) are isolated each other mangrove systems. We analyzed sequence data one mitochondrial marker (Cytochrome Oxidase I (COI)), two nuclear markers (18S 28S). In addition, examined shell shape using geometric morphometric approach. The Indonesian spp. harbored four deeply diverged lineages (14–75% COI corrected net divergence), which correspond previously recorded Palau, 1,900 km away. These also showed significant differences constitute species complex at least undescribed species. Each lake different lineage despite fact that separated by only 2–6 km, while populations, 20 distance other, same shared haplotypes. thus represent habitats. As contained within diversity (0.1–0.2%), suggest this may resulted situdivergence due isolation founder after formation (6,000–12,000 years before present). Combined effects stochastic processes, local adaptation increased evolutionary rates could produce high levels differentiation small such as environments.
