摘要: We discuss the finite temperature properties of ultracold bosons in optical lattices presence an additional, smoothly varying potential, as current experiments. Three regimes emerge phase diagram: a low-temperature Mott regime similar to zero-temperature quantum phase, intermediate where insulator features persist, but superfluidity is absent, and thermal state have disappeared. obtain thermodynamic functions latter cases. The results are used estimate temperatures achieved by adiabatic loading point out crucial role trapping potential determining final temperature, suggest scheme for further cooling decompression.
