摘要: Summary The paper first examines the notion of trees as ‘service providers’. Some possible formal and informal ways in which are valued outlined. question what is meant by ‘values’ then raised. ‘Instrumental’ ‘intrinsic’ values recognised, along with anthropocentric bio-/ecocentric attitudes regard to trees. discussion moves on consider moral actions different types ‘valuing’ might imply, ‘rights’ have virtue their values. Issues language, science, also touched on. merit personal or subjective towards dealt with. It concluded that a new ethical ‘relationship’ may be emerging, more balanced than our predominantly rational, objective one.
