Reusing Downstream Carrier in Colorless Laser Diode for Full-Duplex 64-QAM OFDM

摘要: Without the need of any inline data eraser, downstream carrier is reused in an upstream colorless laser diode transmitter to demonstrate full-duplex bidirectional 64-QAM OFDM passive optical network (PON) at up 18 Gb/s. Therein, signal used control wavelength by injection locking, and slave then generates injection-locked for carrying signal. Distributing subcarriers into dual frequency regions (baseband 0–3 GHz) (up-shifted band 3–6 GHz) transmissions avoids crosstalk simplifies system. The power splitting ratio 60/40 optimized receiving/injection branches user end. For after propagating 25-km SMF, a sensitivity received least –8.5 dBm required suppress BER below 3.8 × 10−3 forward-error correction (FEC) criterion. When directly reusing with unerased injection-lock diode, SMF transmitted exhibits SNR 22.9 dB error vector magnitude 4.1%, which provides 1.5 –5.8 dBm. Such eraser-free operation has shown its applicability quadrature amplitude modulation orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing PON.
