摘要: Abstract The growth of carbon onions is simulated using continuum mechanical shell models. With this models it shown that, if a onion has grown to critical size, the formation an additional layer leads occurrence structural instability. This instability inhibits further and, thus, can be reason for limited size such particles. loss stability mainly evoked by van der Waals interactions between misfitting neighboring layers leading self-equilibrating stress states in due mutual accommodation. influence curvature induced surface energy and its consequential state investigated found rather negligible. Furthermore, that nonlinear character considered obtain maximum numbers comparable experimental observations. proposed model gives insight into mechanisms which are assumed limit serve as basis investigations, e.g., nanodiamonds center onions.
