摘要: With the growing water scarcity, need for more efficient use has worldwide increased in importance. In addition, cost-recovery is now widely acknowledged as a cornerstone of sustainable management. This research aims to contribute improved management small-scale irrigation sector South Africa, which also faces these challenges. first analysis economic production value was determined. Results show that without government subsidies on inputs, profitability many smallholders low. Achieving full cost recovery therefore appears be problematic current users. next part concept sub-vector efficiencies introduced measure efficiency. The shows fail reach their overall technical efficiency levels when it concerns use. Even using technologies potential reallocate other demands substantial. third an innovative two-steps simulation model developed study impact pricing. introduces representation technology and smallholder profit maximisation model. Farmers appear quite responsive charges adjust use, even charge relatively Pricing can thus used provide incentives improvement. However, introduction price shown significantly decrease farm profit, particularly smaller farms. last investigates improving rights system Africa. Using contingent ranking experiment WTP specific interventions estimated. results farmers are prepared pay considerably higher prices if this connected with advancements system. implies such would improve sector. A interesting light recovery, because allows increase charges. general, how analyses inform policy making
