摘要: In a confluent, single-cell tissue layer, we show that cell shapes and statistics correlate directly with the tissue's mechanical properties, described by an energy functional generic interfacial terms only. Upon increasing cohesive component of model, observe clear transition from tense state isotropic cells to relaxed anisotropic cells. Signatures are present in mechanics, domain geometry, statistics, thus linking all three fields study. This persists for size distributions, but its exact position is crucially dependent on fluctuations parameter values (quenched disorder). The magnitude can be matched observed shape distribution cells, so visual observation provides information about tissue. Comparing experimental data Cucumis epidermis, find system located right at transition, allowing relieve most local stress while maintaining integrity.
