Fostering Resilience among Mothers under Stress: "Authentic Connections Groups" for Medical Professionals

摘要: Abstract Background We report on effects of an intervention to foster resilience among professional women at high risk for stress and burnout: health care providers (physicians, PhD clinicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners) who are mothers. Methods Between February November 2015, 40 mothers staff the Mayo Clinic, Arizona, were assigned randomly either 1) 12 weekly 1-hour sessions a structured, relational supportive intervention, Authentic Connections Groups ( n  = 21) with protected time attend or 2) hours be used as desired (controls;  = 19). Participants assessed baseline, after 3 months follow-up multiple psychological measures plus plasma cortisol. Results Across weeks groups, there zero dropouts. After analyses covariance showed significantly greater improvements p 2 0.08–0.19; median, 0.16). in (but not control) condition also significant reductions cortisol levels both follow-up. Conclusions Facilitated colleague support groups could viable, low-cost, preventive mitigate burnout distress high-stress settings such hospitals, resulting personal benefit, engagement work, attenuated associated parenting.
