摘要: This paper challenges some orthodox notions concerning the structure and evolution of star-forming regions, proposing that they arise largely by a dual process in which conceptual models are fashioned after categories great part reflections observational limitations, projected onto interpretations data, an example hypostatization categories. Several examples discussed. The need for internal support molecular clouds is questioned. It suggested inverse density-size relation often claimed accounted several theoretical artifact caused limited dynamic range column density detectability, selection bias, distance uncertainties, gradients, contradicted unbiased surveys. Limited spatial (ratio image size to resolution) maps results “Mr. Magoo effect” tends accommodate quasi-static evolutionary concepts. Column structures mapped with large dominated irregular, connected, nested forms on all scales. Contour shapes both atomic exhibit self-similar irregularity common fractal dimension over scale. These features technique quantification complex illustrated densely-sampled Taurus region constructed from IRAS data. A comparison 553 high-accuracy polarization vectors also given.
