Mental Health Issues Among Pregnant Women in Correctional Facilities: A Systematic Review

摘要: Incarceration-induced stress makes pregnant women in correctional facilities a high-risk group for mental health problems, resulting adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. A systematic review was conducted to examine the prevalence correlates of issues among inmates. Databases searched included PubMed, Medline, CINAHL Plus, PsycINFO, National Criminal Justice Reference System, Social Work Abstracts, Cochrane Campbell libraries, which were studies published English from 1950 till July 2013. Eleven addressed at least one illness. Quality score assigned these eligible articles. Due heterogeneity, narrative performed. All United States, with quality scores ranging 7 10 out 10. Only used mixed methods, rest quantitative. Tobacco use inmates exceeded 50%, some reporting as high 84%. Alcohol common; 36% illicit drugs study. Depression anxiety levels high-some reported depression 80% Findings suggest that prisoners is huge concern has not been adequately addressed.
