Autoradiographic Studies of Pear Pollen Tube Walls

摘要: Germinating pollen was supplied D-glucose-3H and myo-inositol-3H. Pollen tube growth terminated at varying intervals the cytoplasmic contents removed or left intact. Empty tubes were treated with β-1,4-glucanase, β-1,3-glucanasc pectinase residual radioactivity determined. Analysis of autoradiograms showed tip contained primarily pectin, subtending cell wall cellulose, possibly hemi-cellulose, callose accumulated most heavily toward rear, older segments tube. Callose also formed in region non-growing tubes. Pectin from myoinositol appeared to be solubilized, removed, cytoplasm aging
