摘要: Oncology and cancer research are based on the principle that cancers regarded as organ- tissue-specific diseases. One of central aspects histopathological tumor diagnostics is to determine tumor’s anatomic origin other morphological features basis for selecting appropriate therapy. Similarly, programs usually also focused particular entities. However, mutational profiling performed with next-generation-sequencing techniques has made it possible analyze whether this anatomical classification valid genetic level. Here, we review recent evidence substantial similarities exist among tumors across classical entities We furthermore discuss implications these complex profiles similarity patterns diagnostics, research, clinical study design explain why comprehensive genomic data should be complemented by functional proteomic analyses.
