摘要: Abstract The advanced Indian meteorological geostationary satellite INSAT-3D was launched on 26 July 2013 with an improved imager and infrared sounder is placed at 82°E over the Ocean region. With advancement in retrieval techniques of different atmospheric parameters data have enhanced scope for better understanding tropical processes this accuracy one such parameter, Atmospheric Motion Vectors (AMV) has significantly availability spatial resolution along more options spectral channels imager. present work mainly focused providing brief descriptions AMV derivation using these data. It also discussed initial quality assessment AMVs a period six months starting from 01 February 2014 to 31 other independent observations: i) Meteosat-7 available region, ii) in-situ radiosonde wind measurements, iii) cloud tracked winds Multi-angle Imaging Spectro-Radiometer (MISR) iv) numerical model analysis. observed study that qualities newly derived are comparable existing two versions To demonstrate its application, assimilated Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) it found assimilation helped reduction track forecast errors recent cyclonic storm NANAUK Arabian Sea. Though, limited application case study, however, will provide some guidance operational agencies implementation new dataset future applications Numerical Prediction (NWP) south Asia
