摘要: Objective Evaluating maternal practice regarding diarrhoea and the common cold. Method This was a cross-sectional descriptive study which conducted on island of Baru, near Cartagena, Colombia. It involved 127 mothers African descent their 138 children aged less than 5 years age; convenience sampling used. The Integrated Management Childhood Illness (IMCI) instrument used for survey during one-day healthcare session. prevalence cold 7 days immediately before were estimated, as these occurrence other risks protective factors; history breastfeeding, complementary feeding vaccination compiled. Descriptive statistics χ2 test ascertaining significance relationships between variables. Results Diarrhoea 71.7 % (64-79 95 CI), this being lower girls 2 months to years-old (p = 0,02) 99.2 (97-100 higher in older (p=0.004). 86.9 (81-92 CI) did not know how identify warning signs diseases, 84.9 (78-90 practices inadequate 73.3% took doctor first line medical (p=0.05). Conclusions Efforts must be increased implementation IMCI strategy vulnerable communities, through effective channels communication innovative ways reduce child morbidity mortality indices, thereby promoting island's social development.
