摘要: Cucumber is an economically important crop. It widely grown in the tropics, subtropics, and milder portion of temperate zone both hemispheres. Its total world tonnage production ranks sixth among vegetable species (Reynolds 1986). Numerous diseases attack cultivated cause tremendous annual losses. In many cases these are result infection by viruses or microbes. Although various pest control measures have been attempted, none has yet proven entirely successful. A main objective breeding programs thus not only to increase yield quality, but also select cultivars resistant diseases. One method obtaining traits hybridize wild with (Deakin et al. 1971). However, this approach associated difficulties such as number backcrosses required obtain original cultivar containing desirable traits. The recent advances genetic engineering appear offer a promising alternative for improvement major advantage transformation potential add characteristic trait directly existing genotype, while avoiding necessity further conventional procedure stabilize new gene background suitable sexual propagation. pre-existing genotype would enable retention already products.
