摘要: Important changes are needed to disciplinary theories and methods support interdisciplinary integrated ocean coastal management policies implementation. This review argues that should conform a perspective is societal activity with diverse goals ideally informed by information. The focuses on the (ICM) marine ecosystem-based (EBM) frameworks protected areas (MPA) tool. It begins suggesting at present there notable imbalance in degree of effort allocated monitoring ecological social dimensions resource use policy processes. Based how Western society an influential epistemic community construct ‘the environment’ society's relation environment, natural sciences play inordinately important role description problem recommendations. discourse advocating for global networks areas, without adequate consideration impacts responses, represents example this imbalance. Rebalancing contributions scientific disciplines encounters various dilemmas epistemological, methodological sociological dimensions. analysis concludes suggestions balancing research reframing key issues, creating self reflexive multidisciplinary teams, reworking educational programmes.
