A Study of Convergent Validity Between the Adjustment Scales for Children and Adolescents (ASCA) and the Behavior Assessment System for Children-Teacher Rating Scale (BASC-TRS)

摘要: The Adjustment Scales for Children and Adolescents (ASCA) the Behavior Assessment System Children-Teacher Rating Scale (BASC-TRS) are two relatively new behavior assessment devices designed to measure youth problem behavior. Both scales be completed by child's classroom teacher evaluated qualified professionals. unique in their construction considered technically adequate. Many of syndromes/subscales global scales/composites similar name, nature, descriptions according respective manuals. However, no research has been conducted establishing convergent evidence construct validity between instruments. present study attempted provide this needed directly comparing ASCA BASC-TRS. A sample children (n=52) referred special education evaluation were participants study. Regular teachers asked complete both on each child they referred. Comparisons studied through correlational analysis. Results indicated preliminary instruments core syndrome/subscale level with several correlation coefficients ranging from .50 . 70 measuring traits. On scale/composite level, was only established Overactivity scale BASC-TRS externalizing composite. Nonsignificant mean differences ratings yielded further among like scales/composites. information provided is beneficial school psychologists other educational professionals looking a more psychometrically sound, less subjective methods assessing youths.
