摘要: Aluminum-steel electric transition joints (ETJ) are used in aluminum and magnesium reduction cells for making welded connections between buss systems steel anodes cathodes. Depending upon the cell design operating procedures, ETJs can operate at temperatures ranging 200 C 500 C, sometimes hotter. Over time, these thermal conditions have significant deleterious effect ETJ bond strength, resulting eventual failure. A detailed study was performed measuring strength as a functio n of temperature, design. Specimens were maintained 300 to 640 up days, then tensile tests performed. Metallographic spectrographic analyses analyze mechanism degradation. Diffusion subsequent intermetallic formation mechanisms causing Theoretical diffusion equations provide basis extrapolation test data longer time periods. The addition thin interlayer alter this behavior. Several materials evaluated, including chromium titanium. Titanium provides most improvement performance. Extrapolations indicate that titanium ETJ’s be expected over 10 years 450 without
