摘要: Relationships between larval habits and external structures in last instar larvae the Oligotrophidi were studied. More than one hundred species distributed among approx. 25 genera examined. For comparison, literature records of structural features referring to other taxonomic categories gall midges also evaluated. – The morphology seems several respects be more specialized various whose are solitary or pupating regularly on host plant great majority with gregarious soil. Thus, lateral papillae thorax ventral abdominal segment 8 show a reduced pattern mainly solitary. Generally, soil possess well-developed spatula sternalis while less transformed no at all. Mamelons body side, probably organs facilitating locomotion, conspicuous most but small lacking many plant. Another difference, which is elongated showing remaining studied present context, possibly connected mode life. Gall higher rank similar tendencies, as regards both sternalis. However, there clear correlation 8. Definite figures relating mamelons shape these not available. study yielded examples large intra-specific variation some larvae. In cases this considerably delimits possibilities finding consistent distinguishing characteristics level.
