摘要: This paper reviews research on cochlear implantation relevant to deprivation and acclimatization with acoustical hearing aids. The term "deprivation" is used in its everyday sense refer the bilateral absence of acoustic stimulation. Results are reviewed from several sources, detailed evidence presented three groups postlingually deafened adult patients one group prelingually child patients, all implanted at University Iowa. Outcomes reveal consistent effects deprivation, evidenced by significant negative correlations between accuracy speech perception duration profound/total deafness before implantation. also show form improvements performance over time after For level measured shortly average about half eventually. Individually, 80% Iowa time. On average, reached asymptote 30 40 mo implant use, although individual differences rate amount improvement large. Absolute implants adults believed be related preoperative measures domains: 1) number physiological responsiveness auditory ganglion cells nerve fibers, indexed sensitivity, deafness, age; 2) central nervous system, cognitive linguistic ability, possibly age deafness; 3) motivation learn use implant. Preliminary analyses suggest that first domain more strongly associated immediate benefit than subsequent
