摘要: Abstract High fish consumption and extended breastfeeding are hallmarks of traditional lifestyle in Western Amazonia. We studied sources mercury exposure, fish-methylmercury (meHg) dental-amalgam filling, 75 urban 82 rural lactating mothers. Total was determined all samples while meHg concentrations were subsamples milk (45) hair (27) mothers living Porto Velho (PV) (46) (37) communities (TC) the Rio Madeira. The TC showed significantly higher median hair-Hg (8.2 μg g−1) than PV (1.3  μg g−1). Median total Hg (0.36 ng g−1) lower (p = 0.0000) that found (2.30 ng g−1). also (1.0 ng g−1) (0.07 ng g−1). For with low rates (and relatively dental amalgam fillings) proportion inorganic (85%) (62%). In 51% breast above 2 ng g−1 (world concentrations), contrasting 8% Despite this, there no significant correlation between either filling or daily consumption. Socioeconomic changes occurring Amazonia causing fish-eating habits However, attendant high riverine populations can still impact methylmercury mothers’ hair.
