摘要: Abstract The laboratory experiment of Plumb and McEwan demonstrates the principal mechanism periodically reversing winds observed in stratosphere—the quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO). However, despite numerous studies, some aspects QBO connection to its analog remain unclear. Incorporating rapidly undulating boundaries into numerical algorithm—via time-dependent curvilinear coordinates—allows for reproduction experimental setup, while minimizing uncertainties. Results are presented first direct simulation phenomena that lead zonal-mean flow reversal aim this research is narrow widening gap between theoretical understanding laboratory-scale, internal-gravity wave processes complexity global-scale circulations.
