摘要: SUMMARY The causal relationship between seismicity and longwall coal extraction in the North Staffordshire coalfield has been established. larger seismic events (M L = 2.5 − 3.5) occur pillars of previous workings when active face passes under or above these pillars. These have a shear source mechanism are generated by failure within smaller events, many which an implosional mechanism, interpreted as being strata collapse behind waste adjacent panels.
