摘要: From 1953 to 1983, an estimated 0.01 0.136 Ci (curies) per year of iodine-129 were contained in wastewater generated by the ICPP (Idaho Chemical Processing Plant) at Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. The was directly discharged Snake River Plain aquifer through a deep disposal well until February 9, 1984, when use discontinued and replaced unlined infiltration pond; second pond put into on October 17, 1985. For 1984-86, annual amount ponds ranged from 0.0064 0.039 Ci. In August 1986, concentrations water 35 wells near less than reporting level 3.6-0.4 pCi/L (picocuries liter). By comparison, April 1977, 20 maximum 27-1 iodine-129; 1981, concentration 32 41-2 pCi/L. average 18 that sampled 1986 4.0, 6.7 1.3 pCi/L, respectively. marked decrease 1981 result three factors: (1) disposed annually; (2) change routine ponds; (3) dilution increase recharge Big Lost River.
