摘要: Relapse rates are high in cigarette smokers attempting to quit. Research suggests disturbed sleep may be associated with smoking resumption. We investigated nighttime and daytime sleepiness smokers, before during a quit attempt without treatment. Fourteen (16.2 ± 6.2 cigarettes per day; ages 27.6 ± 5.6 years) spent three consecutive nights laboratory including polysomnographic recording. Smokers initiated after one last immediately following the first night. Changes from abstinence variables self-reported were investigated. Results compared an age- sex-matched group of non-smokers different study. Compared smoking, latency dropped by 17 ± 7 min (mean ± SEM) abstinence. When controls, had more both attempt, stage N1 sleep, less N3 (i.e., slow wave) longer N3, arousals, despite similar total time. Daytime was higher controls attempt. All this study relapsed within 2 weeks. who took relapse. Although reduced quitting, disturbance persisted remained. Our findings suggest that interventions increasing (e.g., through physical exercise or acoustic stimulation) help improve cessation rates.
