摘要: Abstract Anaesthetics are frequently used to prevent injuries, stress and promote welfare while handling animals. The efficiency of five anaesthetics for short-term the European cuttlefish ( Sepia officinalis ) was tested in order determine best agent its concentration. Ethanol (10.0, 20.0 30.0 mL.L − 1 ), clove oil (0.05, 0.15 mL.L hypothermia (8 °C), magnesium chloride (hexahydrated; 20.0, 27.0 g.L AQUI-S® (10.9 μl.L were selected anaesthetics. This choice preceded by a preliminary trial, with additional agents, where 2-phenoxyethanol (10, 15, 20, 30 mL.L MS-222® (30, 40 mg.L used. Due lack reliable results from these two they discarded. Anaesthetic procedure performed 85 juveniles mean wet weight 45.69 ± 12.01 g, on 5 L container, under hyper-oxygenated seawater (~ 200%), plus dose given anaesthetic agent. After achieving induction, handled 180 s, which consisted weighing according developed CCMAR protocol. Recovery anaesthesia tank flow-through water. All procedures video recorded to, posteriori, obtain time frames recovery, as well behaviour analysis during each stage. For taking into account practice, we established following period criteria optimum dose: induction  Despite multitude new marine vertebrates, this work verified that MgCl 2 , at 27 g.L is still be cuttlefish. Relative other agents used, proved superior ease application, price, availability, minimal distressing effect individuals. However, it's utmost importance increase knowledge regarding species physiology related field animal welfare. development tools identification possible biomolecular indicators confirmation similar vertebrates will allow correct verification induction reduction, when using an process.
