摘要: This paper describes an investigation into the fundamental nature of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) lodging process, which was carried out to obtain data help develop a theoretical model process. To enable realistic soil/root systems be investigated in controlled conditions, portable wind tunnel constructed that could placed over crops various types soil conditions. reports calibration this against natural conditions and shows many respects good simulation crop achieved, but precise structure atmospheric turbulence not fully represented. Measurements plant characteristics showed significant variations frequency oscillation during season, for different levels wetting. Both stem root were observed within tunnel. The former found occur instantaneously, whilst latter developed period minutes. damping individual shoots is shown high with ratio estimated at 0.08 unaffected by variation drag coefficient determined through strain gauge measurements order unity. Overall results suggest existing adequate most aspects, needs refined others, particularly regard progressive failures
