摘要: Abstract Because eggs of marine birds may be exposed to oil adhering the feathers adult birds, a study was undertaken determine effects contamination. Two hundred common eider (Somateria mollissima) were divided into four experimental sets 50 each. treated with No. 2 fuel in amounts 5 μ1 and 20 μ1; third propylene glycol, neutral blocking agent. The fourth set served as control. Hatching success 96 percent for controls, 92 hatched. Only 69 survived: significant reduction hatchability (P⋜0.05). Mean hatching weights all statistically equal. Thus, pollution significantly increase embryonic mortality birds.
