Adverse events experienced by homecare patients: a scoping review of the literature

摘要: Purpose. The paper summarizes the results of a scoping review that focused on occurrence adverse events experienced by homecare patients. Data sources. literature search covered published and grey between 1998 2007. Databases searched included: MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL EBM REVIEWS including Cochrane Library, AGELINE, National Patient Safety Foundation Bibliography, Agency for Healthcare Research Quality Net bibliography. Study selection. Papers included research studies, articles, policy papers, opinion articles legal briefs. Inclusion criteria were: (i) directed services provided in home healthcare professionals or caregivers; (ii) addressed characteristic relevant to patient (e.g. occurrences, rates, definitions, prevention outcomes); (iii) were English. extraction. A pool 1007 was reduced 168 after analysis. charted according six categories: causes, consequences, interventions policy. Results. Eight categories emerged: drug events, line-related, technology-related, infections urinary catheters, wounds, falls, studies reporting multiple rates other. Reported overall ranged from 3.5 15.1% with higher specific types. Few intervention found. Adverse commonly associated communication problems. Policy suggestions need improve assessments, monitoring, education, coordination communication. Conclusion. standardized definition setting is needed. Prospective cohort are needed estimates should be undertaken reduce risk patients will experience events.
