摘要: Abstract This study provided a comprehensive characterization on ingestion of different typologies microplastics in several fish and invertebrate species from the Adriatic Sea, considered as preferential area plastic accumulation Mediterranean. Almost 500 organisms were sampled three sectors Northern, Central Southern Adriatic, testing hypothesis that collection, habitat feeding strategy might influence occurrence particles biota. In this study, overall separately microparticles (MPs) textile microfibers (MFs) which also included natural semi-synthetic ones. Ingestion MPs was widespread phenomenon, but their number (typically 1 or 2) did not reveal any significant relationship with biometric values, geographical areas ecological features species. Conversely, frequency ingestion, ranging 13 to 35% containing MPs, appeared more reliable index highlight such differences, revealing higher values basins compared Northern one, well benthopelagic benthic pelagic organisms. Geographical differences occurred terms size typology ingested particles, suggesting importance local river runoffs surface currents dynamics. Textile abundant food webs occurring all analyzed average numbers (3–10) frequencies (40–70%) than those reported for MPs; further, an elevated percentage MFs (>80%) origin. Overall, general insights toward harmonization common biomonitoring strategy, context MSFD, including suggestion frequency-based multi-species approach increase relevance assessment, comparability between trophic webs.
