Melatonin in relation to body measures, sex, age, season and the use of drugs in patients with major affective disorders and healthy subjects

摘要: Serum melatonin levels over a 24 hr period were studied in 30 acutely ill patients with major depressive episode, history of unipolar or bipolar affective disorder remission and 33 healthy subjects. A significant negative correlation (-0.45) between body height maximum nocturnal serum level was found. Maximum during the night lower both patient groups than controls. No difference found 26 investigated when again remission. We thus propose low to be trait-dependent marker for disorder. morning but not samples taken dark, winter season versus bright, spring-summer season. Melatonin females males, adjusted height. Similar results areas under curve analyzed.
