摘要: Affordable and easy-to-use methods for assessing biomass leaf area index (LAI) would be of interest in most breeding programs. Here, we describe the evaluation a protocol photographic sampling image analysis aimed at providing low-labor yet robust indicators LAI. In this trial, two genotypes triticale, bread wheat, four tritordeum were studied. At six dates during growing cycle, LAI measured destructively, digital photography was taken on same dates. Several vegetation indices calculated from each image. The results showed that repeatable consistent values obtained consecutive samplings plots. highly correlated with destructive measurements, though magnitude correlation lower after anthesis. This work shows assessment can fast, affordable, have good repeatability, used under bright overcast skies. A practical derived pictures is fraction green pixels over total image, as it correlations all variables, to lighting conditions has easy interpretation.
