On the chemical water quality in Høylandet, a reference area for acidification research

摘要: Chemical and physical water quality parameters havebeen analyzed in a synoptic study of 101 lakes and103 rivers streams Hoylandet, coastalcatchment Central Norway. The area is sparselypopulated most sites were unaffected by localpollution. Cambro-Silurian sedimentary rocks,porphyric granites migmatitic gneisses arerepresented within the gave variableconcentrations dissolved salts surface water.Conductivity varied from 0.6 to 20 mS m-1 pHfrom 5.0 7.6. Salt sea spray dominated indilute more elevated parts catchmentwhile chemical weathering products dominant inlower. concentrations all major ions pHdecreased with increasing elevation. Non marinesulfate occurred moderate concentrations. pHvalues less than 5.5 rare as wholedid not seem be subject acidification.
