摘要: Beams of 96- and 115-MeV $alpha$ particles were used to study the giant resonance region in 27 nuclei ranging from $sup 14$N 208$Pb. A prominent broad (GAMMA=3--7 MeV) peak is present spectra at an excitation energy approx.63/A$sup 1$/$sup 3$ MeV for all studied with A> or =36. No such apparent A<32. The angular distributions are characterized by oscillatory behavior which quite different monotonic background. Distorted wave calculations L=2 reproduce experimental well most nuclei. Energy-weighted sum rule fractions range 30--50% lighter targets near 100% heavier targets. a breathing mode (L=0) form factor fail observed strength about 3 width smallest closed shell 40$Ca, 90$Zr, 144$Sm, small but significant broadening rare-earth deformed dipole not appreciably excited any (AIP)
