摘要: ‘Fast fashion’ and a ‘take, make, dispose’ economy are fueling people’s accumulation of goods, their willingness to throw these goods away. The end each University year sees tens thousands students clear out homes, lives, move on pastures new, leaving behind wake unwanted clothing, kitchenware bedding, amongst other ‘throwaway’ items. Sustainable waste management schemes at higher education institutions (HEIs) becoming more prominent, taking the opportunity generate positive outcomes from this problem that affects most university cities across country. This study comprises an extensive review HEI reuse as well collection primary data during planning running “Shift Your Stuff”, end-of-term scheme run by Southampton Students Union (SUSU). develops existing protocol, designed provide consistent method analysing term re-use scheme, refining it create methodology which could be easily transferred universities. We critically analyse methods, protocol key performance indicators (KPIs) have been used in previous years, report success year’s project, comparison years. KPIs continued effective way displaying with 92.4% rate – improvement year, along host social benefits including donation food clothing homeless or deprived contribution ground-breaking heart disease research undertaken British Heart Foundation (BHF). These were brought about donations themselves, £3,474 raised through sale donations. Although total amount was lower quality substantially higher, percentage having sent for disposal. make series suggestions how improve order effective.
