The Automatization of Nikola Tesla: Thinking Invention in the Late Nineteenth Century

摘要: By investigating the conflicted relationship between Nikola Tesla (1856–1943) and electrical engineering community, this essay explores competing representations of “invention” in fin-de-siecle period. Drawing on observation that dominant paradigm invention was entangled various inscription practices, I turn to case examine how inventions circulated only as discourses were represented legitimated scientific popular press, literature. The argues rise transmission media, such wireless telegraphy, challenged established conceptions about physical reality informed, turn, Tesla’s singular model invention.
