Bending undulations of lipid bilayers and the red blood cell membrane: A comparative study

摘要: Biological membranes (such as envelopes of erythrocytes) and vesicles lipid bilayers are highly flexible shells which strongly thermally excited although in the former case lipid/protein bilayer is coupled to a quasi-two-dimensional macromolecular network. The bending rigidity may be even reduced order kT by amphiphilic substances so that they behave random surfaces.
