摘要: In the last few years, powerful new DNA, RNA, and protein technologies have been introduced. Combined with a refined genetic analysis, these promoted rapid developments in investigation of mitochondrial genome variety organisms placed this system at forefront modern biological research. The Mitochondrial Genes meeting held Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory May 1981 testified to extraordinary progress made understanding since discovery, about 30 years ago, yeast “petite” mutation by Boris Ephrussi, whom book is dedicated, his collaborators. 47 papers included volume cover wide range topics, including code, DNA replication, gene organization expression, nuclear-mitochondrial interactions, evolution DNA. It thus provides comprehensive account current knowledge concerning genes perspective future directions research field. We wish thank National Institutes Health Science Foundation for financial support acknowledge invaluable help Gladys Kist her staff organizing meeting. also Nancy Ford, Director Publications, Chris Nolan, Dorothy Brown, Annette Kirk their expert patient collaboration editing book. Finally, we gratefully interest enthusiastic James Watson.
