摘要: Tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) is studied as a tribological coating for the valve train's exhaust camshaft of combustion engine. The coated camshafts were installed in non-fired engine, tested computerized component test bench under practice-relevant conditions and analyzed their frictional behavior. A notable reduction drive torque on demonstrated. Namely, roller cam system with ta-C-coated about 15% average within entire engine-map. ta-C coatings extensively characterized laboratory before after investigations bench. Mechanistic understanding behavior dry or starving lubricated was achieved by atomistic simulations contact. Industrial utilization these results would lead to significant increase energy efficiency engines.
