摘要: Abstract Objective The purpose of this literature review is to characterize unconventional health beliefs and complementary alternative medicine (CAM) for asthma, smoking lung cancer as those that are likely safe increase risk in diverse Black communities. These findings should provide the impetus enhanced patient–provider communication elicits patients’ self-management preferences so they may be accommodated, or when necessary, reconciled through discussion partnership. Methods Original research articles relevant topic were obtained by conducting a search PubMed Plus, PsychINFO SCOPUS databases using combinations following terms: cancer, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), smoking, beliefs, medicine, (CAM), explanatory models, African American, Black. Results Using predetermined inclusion exclusion criteria, 51 original papers retained. All but small number CAM behaviors considered safe.
