摘要: Barton Peninsula is an ice-free area located in the southwest corner of King George Island (South Shetland Islands, Antarctica). Following Last Glacial Maximum, several geomorphological features developed newly exposed terrain and their distribution provide insights about past environmental evolution area. Three moraine systems are indicative three main glacial phases within long-term retreat, which also favoured development numerous lakes. Five these lakes were cored to understand greater detail pattern deglaciation through study lacustrine records. Radiocarbon dates from basal sediments enabled reconstruction chronology Holocene retreat. Tephra layers present lake provided additional independent age constraints on changes based geochemical geochronological correlation with Deception Island-derived tephra. Shrinking Collins Glacier southern coastal fringe at 8 cal ky BP. After a period relative stability during mid-Holocene, ice cap started retreating northwards after 3.7 BP, confining some glaciers valleys as shown by systems. Lake confirm last 2.4
