Comparison of Quaternary Glaciogenic Debris Flows with Blocky Mass-Transport Deposits in Orphan Basin, Offshore Eastern Canada

摘要: Quaternary deposits in southern Orphan Basin include complex mass transport (MTD) comprising both glaciogenic debris flows (GDF) and blocky MTD. 3D seismic reflection data were used to highlight the difference between two types of The main MTD sourced from slope off Trinity Trough west basin. On Trough-mouth Fan, a succession GDF was deposited above horizon B5, interpreted date Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 12. Beyond direct influence Trough, unit 2 below B5 is confined within pre-existing channels, which are approximately same location as modern Bonanza Channel Sheridan Channel. Blocky characterized by linear divergent basal grooves chaotic internal facies. Dispersed blocks, less than 1 km2 area, commonly present on slope. tongue sharp-edged, with series closely spaced pressure ridges. GDFs show few features diagnostic Both stacked lobes channelized observed Fan.
